About Us

Our mission is to improve the culture of birth in Virginia by promoting an evidence-based model of maternity care, and supporting care providers who practice mother-friendly care.

Birth Matters, Farmville
Megan Angle, Director

Megan Angle is the mother of 5 children and currently expecting her sixth! She has birthed two in the hospital, two at home with a midwife, and one was born unassisted on the side of the road! She is an avid supporter of breast feeding, cloth diapering, and attachment parenting.

She has a Bachelor's degree in Women's Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. She was trained as a Certified Birth Doula at Aviva Institute and is also certified in Neonatal Resuscitation.

She is currently studying at Aviva Institute to obtain a second bachelor's degree in Midwifery. Once completed, along with apprenticeship training and successful completion of the NARM exam, she hopes to begin a practice in the Farmville, Va area as a Certified Professional Midwife.

She is Director of Birth Matters Farmville and runs Branglewood Birth Services. She lives in Green Bay with her husband, 5 (soon to be 6) children, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 50+ chickens!

You can reach her at (434)767-4246, or by email at meganangle@gmail.com.

Joy Long

Joy Long is the mother of four children all of which were born in a hospital. She has experienced a wide range of birthing techniques from full intervention with doctors (with the exception of epidural or c-section) to no intervention using a midwife. She has used laboring techniques such as Lamaze and Hyponobirthing. She has also nursed all of her children until different age limits including from 6 weeks until 18 months. Because of some difficulties such as mastitis, systemic yeast, and duct blockage she has learned of many issues that new and reoccuring mothers should be aware of that no one may prepare them for when it comes to breast feeding. Being a busy mom she has also learned simple techniques that make traveling easier when having to formula feed.

She has an Asociates degree in Arts and Science and is currently finishing her Bachelor degree of Interdisciplinary Studies with a Minor in Special Education. She is also certified in Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding for educators. She is the Co-Director of the JAKES youth program for the NWTF and volunteers when needed for the Broom Tree Ministries in Farmville to help troubled mothers get back on track.

She is training along side Megan Angle to become Co-Director of Birth Matters Farmville and looks forward to a wonderful year!
