About Us

Our mission is to improve the culture of birth in Virginia by promoting an evidence-based model of maternity care, and supporting care providers who practice mother-friendly care.

Birth Matters, Farmville
Local Director Ronna Strilaeff Maldonado

Ronna, a mother of two boys, has had a special interest in childbirth from as far back as she can remember. This interest has grown exponentially through each stage of becoming a mother. After the birth of her first child, Ronna began researching some of the decisions that had been made during the course of her maternity care and realized that the next time she had a baby she wanted more personalized, evidence-based care rather than treatment centered on routine protocol or convenience.

The birth of Ronna’s second baby was a truly empowering and life-changing experience which has resulted in her becoming a stronger woman as well as an advocate for informed choice in maternity care. She recognized through her journey into motherhood that the Farmville area is in need of a strong support system for women seeking evidence-based care during this special and important time in their lives. By joining forces with Birth Matters Virginia, which has been providing this type of support to mothers across our state for years, Ronna hopes to improve the culture of birth in Farmville through facilitating mother-to-mother support, informative classes, and promoting mother-friendly care from our local birth professionals.
