Why
Take a Class?
So you want to buy a car?
Step 1: Research - You and your partner probably spend lots of time
talking about the kind of car, gas mileage, maintenance fees, whether
you will lease or buy, how much money can you put down and how it
will impact your monthly budget.
Step 2: You look around - You see “your
car” in parking lots and driving on the street - it looks
good, and you’ll look good in it!
Step 3: The Dealership
- You go to not one, but two or three, you test drive, check the
newspaper and get the best deal. You spend almost an entire day at
the dealership when you finally purchase your dream car. So you’re
pregnant and you’re not sure you really need, or have the time
to take a childbirth class...
A childbirth education class, choice
of care provider and birth place are as much consumer decisions
as buying that car, except this purchase isn’t one that will depreciate
over time, doesn’t come with a warranty and can’t be
returned or recalled. Your birth experience has the potential to
transform you forever, but can also leave both physical and emotional
scars that are hard to heal if you have not prepared for the experience
and all the decisions involved.
A childbirth education class can
prepare you for the physical and emotional challenges of childbirth.
The right class and the right teacher can increase your confidence
in your ability to labor and birth your baby. It can also increase
your partner's involvement in labor. There are many types of classes,
so be sure to find out who is offering the class and what the instructor's
philosophy is.
