Birth Matters holds free monthly gatherings at First Christian Church at 3109 Rivermont Avenue, near Virginia Baptist Hospital. The meetings are on the third Tuesday of every month from 7-9 pm. Anyone is welcome to come and learn about a variety of topics including pregnancy, types of practitioners, labor, local resources, doulas, breastfeeding, postpartum and comfort measures for pregnancy and birth.
July: This meeting is just for Dads! Come talk with guys who have been there already, pick their brains and hear their stories. There will be a raffle prize just for dads! Ladies, you are welcome to join us, too.
August: Preventing premature birth. Learn the statistics on prematurity in our area, what steps you can take to keep your own baby safe, and learn about a community program aimed at lowering those numbers of preemies. Special guest speaker TBA.
September: Popcorn and a birth movie! Movie TBA. If you love watching birth, you'll want to join us.
October: Postpartum Depression- This is a very important topic. All expectant parents need to know the difference between the 'baby blues' and true depression, signs of a crisis, and where to turn for help.
