Joy Long is the mother of four children all of which were born in a hospital. She has experienced a wide range of birthing techniques from full intervention with doctors (with the exception of epidural or c-section) to no intervention using a midwife. She has used laboring techniques such as Lamaze and Hyponobirthing. She has also nursed all of her children until different age limits including from 6 weeks until 18 months. Because of some difficulties such as mastitis, systemic yeast, and duct blockage she has learned of many issues that new and reoccuring mothers should be aware of that no one may prepare them for when it comes to breast feeding. Being a busy mom she has also learned simple techniques that make traveling easier when having to formula feed.
She has an Associates degree in Arts and Science and a Bachelor's degree of Interdisciplinary Studies with a Minor in Special Education. She is also certified in Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding for educators. She is the Co-Director of the JAKES youth program for the NWTF and volunteers when needed for the Broom Tree Ministries in Farmville to help troubled mothers get back on track.
